Student Messages

Here are some messages from the students for their friends and family back home! Looking forward to another memorable week in Peru!

Hi everyone! I am having so much fun on this trip so far. We´ve hiked beautiful mountains, seen great ruins and learned a lot about the Incas. I am getting a lot better at my Spanish. Can't wait to see how good I am by the end of the trip. I am eating very well here, the food is delicious. So glad I came on this trip, miss and love you!

Dear Mom and dad, I am really enjoying my time in Peru. My Spanish has improved and I have been eating a lot of great foods. Love you and miss you, Tia.

This place is absolutely amazing, I am always surrounded by mountains and immersed in the Peruvian culture. It seems everyday I am seeing more breathtaking ruins, and my Spanish is constantly improving. I can´t wait to see more of this beautiful country.

Grant

Peru is truly awesome. Everyday I get to try interesting new foods. Here is very fun and interesting and I get to practice and improve my Spanish while learning about the Incan culture.

Hello everyone! I have been having a great time in Peru, we have been seeing so many fascinating ruins and that doesn't even include Machhu Pichhu. We are also learning a ton of Spanish. See you all in 2 weeks.

Meet the Leaders

Alicia currently lives in Glenwood Springs, Colorado where she works on a local organic farm that provides year-round organic produce to the Roaring Fork Valley. She grew up speaking Spanish on the eastern plains of Colorado and was thrilled to attend college in Fort Collins where she soon discovered her love for the outdoors, language and adventure. During her summer breaks, Alicia led expeditions in Costa Rica and Panama for Longacre Expeditions. After college Alicia has had the opportunity to ski some of the best mountains, lead trips is Oregon, and British Colombian, teach English and volunteer in Baja Mexico, live and work abroad in New Zealand, and explore the Nicaraguan and Moroccan countrysides. Through her travel and experiences with youth, Alicia decided that she wants to continue working with youth and show them the exciting and diverse world we live in. This will be Alicia’s first summer with WMI and she has a lot of world experience and leader skills she is bringing with her. In her free time you can find Alicia exploring Colorado and Utah’s best rock climbing destinations or on the dance floor teaching and spinning to her favorite salsa and merengue rhythms!

Max is a 23-year-old Rhode Island native who has spent the last 10 wonderful summers with Windsor Mountain. After spending two seasons as a counselor at Windsor Mountain’s International Summer Camp, he led two incredible Windsor Mountain groups on travel programs to the Caribbean in 2010 and 2011. Max is thrilled to be a part of this upcoming Peruvian adventure. Max studied Spanish at Dalhousie University, and subsequently his love of the language and South American culture compelled him to spend 6 months living in Cusco, Peru, where he studied at the Ethnias Spanish School and taught English at the Colibri afterschool program. Max is an avid guitarist and music aficionado. He can’t wait to return to the magical country of Peru and be surrounded by the exotic yet comforting sights, sounds and smells of the country that he has grown to love dearly, and holds close to his heart.
